Surroundings Val d’Orcia

The Val d’Orcia, in the southern part of Tuscany, is perhaps the most breathtaking part of the province. It was not without reason that it was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2004.

The rolling countryside offers so many beautiful views that you have to stop again and again during a car journey to enjoy and capture them. The colours that the landscape takes on during the seasons are constantly different, but equally beautiful. Green in spring, yellow of wheat in summer, all shades of brown in autumn when the soil is ploughed and many more than 50 shades of grey in winter. It still captivates us every time and it is also our favourite area to show people the beauty of Tuscany.

And we are not the only ones who are so enthusiastic, because for centuries painters have tried to capture this landscape in a painting. And filmmakers use the landscape regularly too, as seen in The English Patient, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, La Vita e Bella and Gladiator, among others.

The main towns here are:

  • Montalcino, especially known of course for the delicious, but pricey Brunello wine;
  • Radicofani, with an imposing castle that you can see on the rocks from 50 km away;
  • Castiglione d’Orcia, near the thermal baths of Bagni Vignoni;
  • San Quirico D’Orcia, as a nice starting point for your visit to this area;
  • Pienza, a beautiful old town, commissioned by Pope Pius II as an example of ideal urban design, in the 15th century. Famous also for the Pecorino
  • On the western side of the Val d’Orcia, you will find the Monte Amiata, with 1732 metres the highest mountain in Tuscany, where you can even ski in winter!

A holiday in this area is really recommended for those who can enjoy nature, colour and views. Peace and quiet are key words here, but with the above mentioned places and Montepulciano and Siena in the neighbourhood, there is certainly enough to see and do.

Located on a hill south of Florence, Villa Tavernuzze is a medieval farmhouse: the building was in poor condition in the late fifties, when it was bought by an Italian-Dutch young couple, who decided to settle here. A recent restoration has given the villa the original atmosphere with bright spaces and cozy rooms;   It offers a sleeping area on the first floor with 5 bedrooms (3 double and 2 twin) and 3 bathrooms + 1 bathroom.   Two of the bedrooms are connected as a family room (the second room is reached through the first room). The third bedroom has beamed ceilings and has a large bathroom with bath and shower.   There are 2 living rooms, both with fireplaces, one of them really typical large country with a fireplace sitting in the space ideal for cooking chestnuts during the fall.   A large dining room overlooking the garden is connected to the other living room. Ideal to rest a little after lunch :).   The cozy and fully equipped kitchen is the face of the courtyard to the wide paved outdoor area, which is an ideal playground for children or adults, as a dance floor and gives access to the dining table, the orchard and olive grove and the garden.   Next to the courtyard is the meadow with a swimming pool and sun loungers. This is the perfect place to rest after a day of wandering through beautiful nearby Florence.   Parking space in the property, gate width 2.30 m.   Layout Ground floor: Entrance, two living rooms, dining room, kitchen.   First floor: Five 2-person bedrooms, four bathrooms     Design Air Conditioning, Wifi Internet, Dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, fridge-freezer, oven, stove, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, hair dryer, ironing board + iron, fireplace.     Exterior Private swimming pool (above ground), sun loungers, tables + chairs, parking, barbecue, garden, terrace.     Location Tavernuzze - Florence - Tuscany - Italy     Distances Village (Tavernuzze) 1 km, Florence: 9 km, Airport (Florence): 15 km, Pisa: 87 km, Lucca: 82 km.     view Valley with a lot of nature     Comments From October to May it is possible to rent a stay from 3 days!   Not included in the rental price: Reservation fee €20 Local tourist tax (to be paid on arrival) Final cleaning €180 (to be paid on arrival) Air conditioning according to consumption 0.60 euros per kWh.
